1920s Flapper
(April 2000)
Ralph & Robyn had a Speakeasy 1920's costume party in April 2000, so even though my body shape is definitely not flapper-like, I made myself a purple dress with black fringe, including hand-beaded black braid trim on the dress and the feather headband.
Hair:
Since my hair was about down to the middle of my back, when I showed up at the party with what looked like a short 20's-style bob, Ralph said "You didn't cut your hair for this?!?" No, I just put it in a ponytail, then rolled up the ponytail underneath my hair in the back, then pinned the heck out of it.
Headband:
The feather headband is black velvet ribbon, trimmed in the hand-beaded black braid trim on both edges, then black & purple feathers hand-cut and curled into shape. The feather mount is an old costume jewelry piece from a brooch.
Dress:
The purple fabric was originally used for Mardi Gras decorations at Louie's house when we had draped fabric from his vaulted ceilings. Needless to say, I had tons of leftovers, so why not use it? I like purple anyway. :) The black fringe was purchased with a coupon from a local fabric store (I would have loved to have purple fringe, but I couldn't find any). The black braid trim was also purchased with a fabric store coupon, but I bought some iridescent purple beads at a specialty bead store, then hand-sewed them inside the loops in the pattern of the black braid. Unfortunately, it's hard to notice that fine of detail even though I really like the look. I had black & purple feather boas already, so I twisted them together for an extra-luxurious boa!
Shoes:
These are character tap shoes which are the perfect look, but I did remove the taps so I didn't make as much of a racket walking around.
